"The
Prime Minister promised after the last election that he would
not use his powers in the Senate arrogantly. Complex, contentious
legislation pushed through without proper consideration and debate,
inquiries rejected and orders for documents refused, all mean
Mr Howard has gone back on his word."
Help ensure Andrew Bartlett is re-elected to the Senate in 2007.
It was the loss
of a Democrat seat in Queensland to the Liberals at the last election
which gave the government control of the Senate, and if that scenario
is repeated it could well be enough to give the Coalition control
of the Senate until well into the next decade.
Ensuring a return
to an independent Senate chamber is vital for Australia's democracy
- making sure Andrew Bartlett retains his Queensland Senate seat
at the next federal election is a key factor in that.
