Julie Noble grew up in NSW and moved to Qld 3 years ago. Julie is a single parent and has 2 daughters 18 and 10. She currently works as an office manager, and is planning to return to university to complete a law degree next year. Julie has an associate law degree, has studied accountancy and is a music teacher, having taught piano privately and in music schools in the past.

Being a working mother Julie is all too aware of the impact of failed government policy on her life and those of her family. The housing crisis, particularly for low income and private rental sectors, is one area that Julie believes needs urgent action.

"I've experienced the pressure of rapidly rising rent myself, and it's very frustrating to hear the Prime Minister deny that there is any problem. This is just one policy area where Mr Howard has shown himself to be out of touch."

Julie is also concerned about the cost and quality of higher education, and believes strongly that access to publicly funded education is crucial to overcome systematic disadvantage and should be available to all.

"Similarly, with health care, I believe this to be a fundamental right and one that governments have an absolute obligation to provide for. Sadly, both state and federal governments have not met this obligation in recent years."

Julie says the Democrats offer strong policy positions that address many of the fundamental issues concerning people right now, and believes the Democrats have played a crucial role in the Senate in the past.

"We need the Democrats to continue in their role of providing a genuine alternative to the major parties, and of being the voice of sense and reason, to ensure we have a Senate that can do it's job of holding the government to account."
