Bridgette grew up in a Brisbane orphanage, run by the Catholic Church, along side members of the stolen generation. This experience has given her a strong sense of social justice and lead to a career of helping others. As a young woman she worked with other children in care to overcome the emotional trauma many had experienced in their lives.

Bridgette is married with 4 children. Her husband of 27 years was in the air force for many years, and the family has lived in different areas of Queensland and overseas. She enjoys boating with her family.

Bridgette worked in retail before finding her way to aged care, initially as a cleaner, then as a diversional therapist. She holds a Diploma in Arts (Aged Care). She is a passionate advocate for the elderly, and loves her role of being able to improve the quality of life for those in residential care.

Australians are far more astute than the government and major political parties give them credit for, Bridgette believes. "John Howard thinks we've forgotten the things he's done - we haven't. The health care system is suffering because of government failure to ensure an adequate, properly trained workforce - this is no where more evident than in aged care. "

"The Workchoices legislation has been devastating to many families. I want my children to be able to have secure jobs where their rights are protected, and I want climate change addressed immediately - damage is being done while the major parties talk. We owe it to future generations to act now."

Bridgette believes the Democrats' record on these and many other issues demonstrates why they are needed. She is supporting the re-election of Democrat Senator Andrew Bartlett with her nomination.
