Alan Dickson has a business background, with a business / arts degree. Alan shares his time between Brisbane and his property at Dalby, which he is renovating himself. Alan works as a volunteer, assisting people in drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Alan has been a member of the Democrats for many years and is proud of their record as the balance of power Party in the Senate. He is running in this election to support the campaign of Andrew Bartlett.

"Andrew Bartlett has served Queensland with compassion, intelligence and dedication for over 10 years. His record in areas including refugees, human rights, indigenous issues, the environment and housing affordability is remarkable."

Alan believes the Howard government's control of the Senate over the last two and a half years has shown how precarious our democracy really is.

"I am concerned that the Senate could be controlled by an extremist minority Party, if the Democrats are not returned to the balance of power role."

Management of water, the impact of climate change, the need to ensure a decent level of services, and the need to invest in infrastructure, including high quality communications, are issues that Alan sees as being crucial to our future. He believes the Democrats offer common sense action plans to address them.
