How
to Vote 1 Democrats in Petrie
Bruce
Carwell grew up on the southern Gold Coast and now lives
in Brisbane. He has worked in Brisbane in the computer industry
since 1984 and currently specialises in designing accounting
solutions for the defence industry as well as managing a
small business partnership. He has been the Australian Democrats
National Treasurer since June 2004 and ran in the seat of
Griffith in the last Federal Election.
Bruce's
interests include walking, reading, economic analysis and
aquascaping. Bruce's community involvement includes being
a member of the Coomera River Catchment Group, former treasurer
of the Australian Bazadais Cattle Society, Australia at
the Crossroads, the Gay & Lesbian Business Network and
the Fujitsu Social Club.
Bruce
has a deep interest in the running of the economy. He strongly
believes that Australian corporate citizens should actively
follow ethical practices, including financial accountability,
fair labour rates and conditions, minimal or positive impact
on the environment and contributing to the social capital
of the community.
Bruce
is concerned about the state of Australia's transport, communications
and environmental infrastructure. He strongly supports the
Democrats' objectives in this regard - that government can't
expect private enterprise alone to build infrastructure
that serves the national interest and that this infrastructure
must be held in government hands.
Bruce
believes it is fiscally responsible for all levels of government
to incur long-term debt in developing infrastructure that
will have economic and social benefits for many years into
the future. "It's common sense that Governments should
finance projects at the lowest interest cost and this will
be supported by business if the project is seen to be a
productive asset."
"Australia
needs the Democrats to keep alive the belief that we are
an open, tolerant society where all people can achieve their
aspirations without discrimination against sex, race, economic
position or lifestyle."
